The Artist must be able to work directly from life and grab every advantage of any opportunity to do so, and NOT to take the photo snapshots, in order to copy or "painterly" improvise them later in the comfort of the studio. Photographers take photographs, but visual Artists should explore their gift with the brush in the direct communication with nature.

Besides "refreshing" your palette, this challenging exercise develops your visual memory and contributes enormously to the ability of working fast and with quality, in any weather or light conditions, indoors or outdoors. It also improves the skill of delivering a convincing and a life-like image, when it's based on your imagination only or when using photographic references, as in the instances of commissioned portraiture.
